An act relating to employee wages and hours.

Existing law generally provides for the regulation of employee wages and working hours.
This bill would direct the Labor and Workforce Development Agency to contract with a research organization with certain characteristics, to study the enforcement of wage and hour laws, including the identification of federal and state resources that may be utilized to enforce wage and hour laws.
This bill also provides that the study shall be completed by December 31, 2003, and paid from existing funds not to exceed $50,000.
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Labor and Workforce Development Agency shall contract with a nonprofit, nonpartisan independent research organization with a proven record of conducting objective research on labor and employment issues in the State of California to study the most effective and efficient means of enforcing wage and hour laws. The study shall also identify all available federal and state resources that may be utilized to enforce wage and hour laws. The study shall be completed and submitted to the Legislature by December 31, 2003. The costs of the study shall be paid from existing agency funds not to exceed fifty thousand dollars ($50,000).
