James J. Granby is "Of Counsel" to the firm. He received his law degree from The University of Chicago Law School. He is a Vietnam veteran and served for three years as an officer in the United States Navy. Jim previously was a partner with another prominent San Diego law firm. He is recognized for his expertise in business counseling and corporate and partnership matters.
On numerous occasions Jim has served as a court appointed Receiver. He has been appointed in both State and federal courts. He has served as a Receiver for the management of businesses and real estate. As a Receiver he has taken charge of the management of operating businesses, partnerships in dissolution, office buildings, apartment complexes, industrial/R&D projects, shopping centers, and hotels. He has served as a Receiver at the request of Wells Fargo Bank, First National Bank, Home Savings, Security Pacific National Bank, and Great American Bank, among others.
Jim is past President of the San Diego County Bar Association. He served as a lawyer delegate to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and is a member of the bar of the U.S. Supreme Court. He has also been very active in business and civic affairs. He has extensive experience as a businessman. He was a founder of a commercial television station, now known as KSWB, Cox Channel 5 in San Diego. He has also been actively involved in the development and operation of many other commercial and business enterprises. He was the founding President and Chairman of the San Diego Convention Center Corporation and for seven years led the planning, construction and opening of the Convention Center, constructed at a cost of $200 million, and now the largest public facility in San Diego County. The Convention Center was recently selected as the best convention facility in the U.S.
